Fred Elwood Horner


 

 

Fred Elwood Horner 71, of Cameron W.V. passed away Saturday, February 10,2024. Fred was born July 17, 1952, in Glendale, W.V. son of the late John Frank and Elnor Marie (Thomas) Horner. Fred graduated from Big Run Elementary School and Cameron High School. After high school he was employed at Marx Toy Plant. He lived on the family farm at Denver Heights most of his life with the exception of a few years he lived in Alliance, Ohio where he worked at Alliance Steel Products manufacturing auto parts.  He also was a truck driver equipment operator and a taxi driver, health problems forced a change of occupation in the late 1980's, Fred went back to school and in 1988 he graduated from West Virginia Northern Community College with his degree in Human (Social) Services. He graduated with a 3.9 GPA, with honors and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa, his educational accomplishments were represented in the 11th Edition of the National Dean's List 1987-88. Fred then interned at the Family Services of Upper Ohio Valley as an Aide. Training continued in 1989 Fred was certified in the practice of Geriatric Psychology. He worked his way up the ladder to the office of Assistant Director of the adult Daycare to Director. Fred took leave of his job to care for his ailing wife, Bonnie and their daughter, Chelcee in 1994, deteriorating health forced retirement. Fred lost Bonnie in 1997 but raised Chelcee alone for the next 5 years. He remained active in the community serving Big Run Christian Church where he was a member since 1965. He has filled the offices of Sunday School Teacher and superintendent, financial secretary and Board Chairman. He served as President of Cameron Elementary PK4 kids and was a long-time member of the WV Sheriff's Association. He loved volunteering at the concession stand at the music in the hills. Fred met Rhonda Siburt in 2002 and they were married May 23, 2003 at the Big Run Christian Church. He and Rhonda worked side by side in the Cameron FFA Alumni till after her death in 2011. Fred was elected as Vice President of the Alumni.  Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dale White and his wife, Bonnie Nesselroad. Survived by one daughter Chelcee (Allen) Brown of Glen Easton, WV; four sons, Fred (Jennifer) Reynolds of Cameron, WV; George "Ray" (Melissa) Horner of Pa.  Wilbur (Carrie) Horner of Ohio; Justin (Kristina ) Horner, Ohio; nine grandchildren. Family will receive friends Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation services 39 Maple Ave., Cameron, WV where services will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Ronnie Williams officiating. Interment at the Big Run Christian Church Cemetery, Cameron, WV.
