John W. Wilson

John William Wilson 78, of Moundsville, W.V.  passed away peacefully June 17, 2025, John was born December 2, 1946 in Wheeling, W.V. son of the late James and Eliza (Harris) Wilson.   

A Christian by faith and attended the Ash Avenue Church of God. John went into the military right out of high school, John proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Saratoga during the Vietnam War, and later became a deputy sheriff for Florence, S.C.  in his later  years he retired from Powhatan Coal Company.  John enjoyed his Dallas Cowboys and Ohio State Buckeyes loved to hunt and meet new people and loved his family and friends he never met a stranger.

John was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and pap.  Also preceded by his granddaughters, Ciera Tomlinson, and Karen Boggs, grandparents Grace and Edward Harris and brother-in-law John Williams. 

Survived by his loving  wife,  Deborah (Woods) Wilson, sister, Nancy (Wilson) Williams, daughter Wendy  (Ed) Tomlinson, step daughters, Mindy Williams, Dana Williams, niece, Julie Williams, Cheryl (Barry) Lohr, Jonathan (Amy) Williams, grandchildren, Kyle (Alexis Kessel) Tomlinson, Jade Givens, Heidi Boggs, Rebecca Tomlinson/Goble, Dillion Tomlinson, Xayne Belbachir, great-grandchildren, Holden Givens, Radleigh Givens, Winston Givens, great niece, Scarlett Bailey/Williams, mother-in-law, Phyllis Woods, Aunt, Joan Young, special friends, Todd,  Doug and Stanley and numerous friends and his beloved doggie Angel. 

Visitation will be held Thursday June 19, 2025, from 4 p.m. until time of services 7:15 p.m. with the Moundsville Veteran Honor Guard conducting military honors followed by Pastor C.J. Plogger officiating at the Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services 1109 2nd St. Moundsville, W.V. Interment at the convenience of the family.
