Samuel Lee Canterbury



Samuel Lee Canterbury 74, of Proctor, WV passed away Friday November 10, 2023. He was born June 4, 1949, in Charleston, WV son of Pete & Jo Thomas Canterbury. A 1968 graduate of Herbert Hoover High School in Elkview, WV. A member of the Moundsville V.F.W. #437. A member of the West Virginia Patriot Guard also a United States Army Sgt. and served in Vietnam. Retired member of the Boiler makers Local #667 Winfield, WV. A member of the Poca Fork Baptist Church and attended the Graysville United Methodist Church. Sam loved, hunting, fishing, camping and loved serving in veteran events and was a very proud Veteran. Sam was an Amazing and loving husband, son, brother and uncle and loved spending time with his family and friends. Preceded in death by his father, Pete, mother-in-law, Martha Dunlap, brother, Donald Canterbury, nephew, Timmy Coleman, brother-in-law Richard Rothermund. Survived by his wife, Debra Whitlatch Canterbury of 45, years, mother, Jo Canterbury of Elkview, WV; two sisters, Kathy (Marlin) Thomas of Charleston, WV; Lea Ann (Tim) Coleman, two brothers, Mike (Dawn) Canterbury and Bryan (Cathy) Canterbury all of Elkview, WV.; sisters & bother-in-laws, Michael (Susan) Whitlatch of Wheeling, WV; and Gary (Alice) Whitlatch of Cameron, WV and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews , aunts, uncles and cousins. Family will receive friends Sunday November 12, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services 1109 2nd St. Moundsville, WV where services will be held Monday November 13, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Dale Wolfingbarger officiating. The West Virginia Patriot Guard and the Moundsville Honor Guard will be conducting military honors.
